A few weeks ago, a rather unusual photo on Instagram set out to become the most-liked image on the platform, surpassing the record that had previously been held by Kylie Jenner. What made the photo so unusual? It simply featured an image of an egg:

Within just a few days, the photo surpassed the 18 million likes previously held by Jenner’s post, eventually reaching an astonishing 52 million likes. As its popularity skyrocketed, many people speculated about who was behind the @world_record_egg account and how it had managed to attract such an extraordinary level of engagement in such a short time.

After weeks of speculation, the truth was finally revealed during last Sunday’s Super Bowl in the United States. The world’s most famous egg on Instagram turned out to be part of a mental health awareness campaign. Remarkably, the campaign featured a video in which the egg begins to crack under the pressure of the overwhelming attention it had received on social media. Accompanying the video was a message encouraging anyone experiencing similar feelings to seek support and ask for help.

This video was preceded by a series of images posted on the @world_record_egg account beginning on January 4, showing the egg gradually cracking over time, foreshadowing the message that would later be revealed.

The final video, showing the egg cracking under pressure, includes the following message: “Phew! I’m feeling much better now. If you’re feeling the pressure too, visit talkingegg.info to learn more and find support.
