As part of the commemoration of World Mental Health Day in October, we carried out an awareness campaign in the districts of Jesús María and Villa María del Triunfo to highlight the importance of mental health as a fundamental component of public health.
The initiative was based on the different ways society treats physical health compared to mental health. The intervention consisted of asking passersby how they take care of their health and inviting them to write their answers on a public display. Their responses revealed the many actions they take to care for their physical health while also exposing the alarming lack of attention given to their mental well-being.

“Unfortunately, we live in a world where it is considered acceptable for any part of our body to become ill—except our minds. This year, we chose to raise awareness about this difference by encouraging preventive actions to protect mental health while also promoting greater understanding and empathy toward people living with mental health conditions,” said Lucero Andaluz, Co-founder and Director of Communications and Advocacy at De-mentes.
